Just the other day I wrote about a bit of chat etiquette overkill and this made me think about many different “rules” that are in place at many a different online bingo brand. Now whilst I understand some of the rules in place surely there has to be some leeway to encompass what the bingo players want. I personally think that Quiz Show Bingo have got it right – it’s sort of like there is an invisible line has been drawn in the virtual stand and when players, although rarely, cross it they are gently pulled back without being made to feel like a child.
Of course with the Live Presenters that Quiz Show Bingo have on offer sometimes the chat can get a bit close to the invisible line but this is handled in a fun, friendly and acceptable manner. Having said that it’s not just the Live Presenters who do this, the chat hosts in the bingo rooms seem to have a better handle on the average bingo player then most sites.
All too often an innocent comment can be taken out of context and result in a player feeling the sharp end of a power hungry hosts “type”. This not only leaves the player feeling patronised but often results in a divide in the room. Sometimes a “chat boot” (when a chat host expels you from the room using the software) can be done in jest but sometimes it’s overused in a power trip in my opinion at some sites.
Having said all that the profanity filter at Quiz Show Bingo seems to have been set a bit high – I was told “not to use bad language” for saying the word crack! What brands have to remember, first and foremost is that ALL players in the rooms are over 18 and we can use our discretion – if we find something offensive or that a player is overstepping that line, we will, more often than not, express that.
Whilst I understand that someone coming into a room and obviously being disruptive is worthy of the infamous boot or someone blatantly irritating other players in order to get a reaction, I think there has to be a little more leeway and understanding of the personalities in the room.
Quiz Show Bingo, with the exception of over zealous profanity settings, has the right balance and the Live Presenters along with the chat host team deserve a pat on the back.
