A substantial change in Londonderry is set to take place, with funds being invested in a number of new local facilities, and a new venue for bingo is set to be one of the developments. Three of Londonderry’s main local businesses have applied to revamp their stores, with the main shop fronts set to have their signage improved to enhance the visual quality and to attract new customers. The three shops seeking self-improvement are Sam Conley Motorcycles, Montgomery and McCleery estate agents and Warwick Wallpapers.
As well as this application, though, another venue in the same area has sought permission to make changes to enable it to be used as a bingo venue. The Dukes Bar, which can be found at the corner of Duke Street and Spencer Road, is keen to become a part of the substantial increase in bingo players that is currently taking place across the UK and Ireland. The number of electronic bingo sites operating has shot up, and more and more live venues are going to try and tap into the available market.
Planners have been notified of both the local businesses’ and bars’ intentions, so they should be made aware of the result soon. The idea for the investment was fuelled by a state-supported high street renovation pilot that took place in Washington DC with some success. The local businesses are hoping that it will offer the same success in Spencer road as it did across the pond.
