There won’t be many people who don’t know the song for children called Bingo; you know the one we mean – ‘there was a farmer who had a dog and bingo was his name-o’ but how many other songs are there that have some sort of bingo lyrics in them? We went on a search around the World Wide Web for songs that contain the word bingo and you would be quite surprised by the amount we found. Of course there are specific songs about the wonderful game of bingo but there are also songs with the word that are not about the game.
The first we found with bingo lyrics was by Shakespeares Sister, a band that had a huge hit in 1991 with Stay. The song, Hello, Turn your Radio On contains the bingo lyrics:
We’re bingo numbers and our names are obsolete.
What hidden meaning there is in that we have no clue; could it be reference to the closure of many land based bingo halls? Most unlikely as the song was originally launched back in 1993 when land based bingo was thriving and internet bingo just a thought in someone’s head..
Chad Brook used bingo lyrics in his song called “Bingo Bulls-eye” and as a country singer he used the term bingo in his song to celebrate winning his love:
Bingo bulls-eye
Dead on the very first try
When it’s the right girl and the right guy
Bingo bulls-eye
A song that was written by band called The Fall is a punky type song called “Bingo Masters Breakout” and it has many lyrics that make reference to bingo:
Two swans in front of his eyes
Coloured balls in front of his eyes
It’s number one for his Kelly’s eye
Treble-six right over his eye
A big shot’s voice in his ears
Worlds of silence in his ears
All the numbers account for years
Checks the cards through eyes of tears
Bingo-Master’s Breakout
We could continue all day with songs that contain bingo lyrics but for now we will leave you will a clip from YouTube of Bingo Masters Breakout by The Fall – ready to pogo?
