In March 2013 Betfair Bingo finally arrived in the world of online gaming, nearly four years after rumours of a launch were first heard! At the end of the same year the site started to advertise their wares on television but the commercial focused more on their mobile offering than that available on your desktop or laptop. In fact, it would be fair to say that the marketing campaign was a little odd.
The Betfair Bingo commercial features a donkey, otters and other completely irrelevant images for bingo online or on your mobile.
The advert starts in a lounge with the main focus of the screen being a hand holding a mobile. The voiceover starts “And we’re here. Betfair Bingo is now available on your mobile”. The person holding the mobile is obviously moving and as they do, the donkey comes into view.
The shot then changes to what looks like a motorway scene with the mobile being held by two hands, we hope they are the passenger! Then it moves to a beach and then with otters! We thought the donkey in a lounge was odd but to play bingo with otters?
As is the aim of any marketing campaign, be it on TV, in the newspaper or online, the expectation is that is catches your attention. It certainly did that for us but for all the wrong reasons. There certainly doesn’t appear to be any player connection. We think the marketing team at Betfair Bingo need to go back to the drawing board but what do you think about the advert for this brand?
