Tombola Bingo do not seem to fair very well when it comes to their bingo commercials; their first ever advert screened for a couple of months before being banned and now we can tell you that the ASA slap another ban on the Tombola advert! The previous offerings from Tombola Bingo featured bingo balls on a fairground.
Their famous coloured bingo balls and all the fun of the Tombola Bingo fair was deemed to appeal to a younger generation and pulled off air after an adjucation was upheld.
The most recent Tombola Bingo adverts, although nowhere near as impressive, features many different scenes. The one in question that has now been banned is shown below. This has now been banned as for presenting a ‘negative racial stereotype’. We aren’t going to get in on the debate as to whether this is the case or not, racism and the like have no place in the world of internet bingo but we will say that this is a case of political correctness gone overboard!
The ASA only need to receive one complaint about any advert before an investigation is launched and for the Tombola Bingo advert there were two. These complaints stem from one of the new adverts showing a coloured man repeating, in song, what is said by the main star of the Tombola Bingo commercial, who is incidentally white.
We are bombarded with adverts for the world of internet bingo on our television sets and in all honesty we believe that the Tombola Bingo advert is harmless enough. The main advert is in fact more likely to offend people who book Saga holidays!
Poor old Tombola Bingo may have to re-think their online bingo adverts yet again but we can’t wait to see what the next offering is! We say bring back the funfair and lose the Saga holidays!
